In this guide, we’ll show you how to set up your ShotKam for hunting game like turkey, deer, and boar, with tailored tips for your bow, rifle, or shotgun. Choose the perfect recording mode for your style and record every hunt—big or small—with precision.

Choosing Your ShotKam Recording Mode

Before you head out, decide which recording mode works best for your ground game hunting:

Pre-Set Recording Mode (Recommended)
- Perfect for automatic, hands-free recording. Ideal for turkey hunters who want to focus on the shot, not the camera. The camera will save 15 seconds before the shot and 20 seconds after each shot. The ShotKam videos will be 1 minute and 45 seconds in length as they are saved in 1/3 playback speed.
Manual Recording Mode (Constant Record)
- Best for longer, continuous footage—like documenting a full morning of calling and stalking.

Option 1: Pre-Set Recording Mode (Recommended)

This mode is ideal if you prefer automatic recording without manually starting and stopping each video. You just need to turn the ShotKam on and shoot, then the camera will record upon recoil (or bowstring release).

Step 1: Select Your Settings

Connect to your ShotKam’s Wi-Fi and open the ShotKam app.
Tap the Settings icon, then select “Ground Game” as your target type—perfect for turkeys, deer, or boar (unlike the shorter “Flying Birds” mode for ducks).
Choose your gun type: shotgun semi-auto, rifle bolt-action, rifle semi-auto, bow, crossbow, etc.
Go to Wake-Up Sensitivity and select “Sleep Disabled.” This setting ensures that the camera stays awake and always buffering video; ready to record at all times.

Step 2: Taking the Shot

When you're ready to shoot, turn your ShotKam ON (one click-and-release of the Control Button), and one green LED will illuminate. Now the camera will record automatically when a shot is detected.

After shooting, a blinking blue LED indicates the shot has been saved.
The video will include 15 seconds before and 20 seconds after the shot, slowed to 1/3 playback speed.
Multiple shots within 10 seconds will be saved as one continuous video.
The ShotKam must remain on with a solid green LED for at least 15 seconds before taking a shot, as it operates on a memory buffer. This ensures that the camera will save 15 seconds before and 20 seconds after each shot.

Battery Conservation Tips and Info:

Since Sleep Mode is off, the ShotKam is always buffering and ready to record, draining power faster: Gen 4 runs for 2 hours, Gen 4 Mini for 1 hour. Charge it the night before your turkey hunt, and turn it OFF when not in use to extend battery life. For longer days, pack an external battery—see recommended packs here.

Option 2: Manual Recording Mode (Constant Record)

This mode is best if you prefer continuous recording for longer durations.

Step 1: Activate Constant Record Mode

To enable Constant Record Mode, start with the ShotKam OFF, then double-click the control button. You will see a blinking blue LED plus a solid green LED. Click the control button to stop the recording. You must always start with the ShotKam OFF, then double-click the button quickly.

Step 2: Recording Tips

Leave the camera OFF until you're ready to record.
Once activated, the camera will continuously record until manually turned off or the battery is depleted.

Important Tip

Always ensure the back cap is securely twisted on the camera to prevent water from entering the USB port.
