Using in cold weather

Learn about operating temperature ranges for ShotKam Gen 3, Gen 4, and Gen 3 Mini. Get tips on using your ShotKam in extreme hot or cold conditions.

Gen 4 and Gen 4 Mini in Cold Weather

The Gen 4 and Gen 4 Mini will operate in temperatures between 14º Fahrenheit (-10º Celsius) and 104º F (40º C).

❄️ If shooting in temperatures below that, then waken the ShotKam from Sleep Mode every 10 minutes to heat up the electronics. When you see a solid green LED light, the camera is buffering video and ready to record. This process generates heat from the processor, so it keeps the battery warm. Either close the action or bump the gun every 10 minutes to keep the battery warm.

Using your ShotKam in very cold conditions will not harm battery life.

Gen 3 in Cold Weather

The Gen 3 will operate where the ambient temperature is between 38º Fahrenheit (3º Celsius) and 110º F (43º C). Using your ShotKam in very cold conditions will temporarily shorten battery life, cause the device to turn off, or cause inconsistent recordings. The battery is made of lithium-ion which is a liquid (same as iPhones), so it can freeze. Battery life will return to normal when you bring the device back to higher ambient temperatures, so there is no permanent damage with extreme cold weather.

Hot Weather:

Using a ShotKam Camera in very hot conditions above 110º F (43º C) can permanently shorten battery life. Don’t leave the device in your car because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.
