Gen 3 Videos Saving to 2018 Dated Folders

Overview

Some Gen 3 ShotKam models (5+ years old) may automatically save new recordings into a folder dated in the year 2018 (for example, 01-01-2018 or another 2018 date) starting in 2026. This is due to a limitation in the internal clock, which was originally programmed through the year 2025. Beginning in 2026, the camera’s date resets to 01-01-2018.

Important:
To check for this issue, you must connect your ShotKam to a computer. The ShotKam mobile app does not display the folder year, so the 2018 date will not be visible in the app; only a computer will show it.

Your ShotKam is still recording normally. This issue only affects the date labeling of folders — not video performance, clarity, or functionality.

Why Is This Happening?

The Gen 3’s internal clock was designed with a date range that ends in 2025. Once that limit is reached, the date automatically resets to a default start point (01-01-2018).

The camera continues operating as normal — only the folder date is affected.

Your Options

✅ Option 1 – Manually Rename the Folder (Recommended)

After each shooting session:

  1. Connect your ShotKam to a computer.

  2. Open the folder dated in 2018.

  3. Rename the folder to the correct shooting date.

This takes just a few seconds and keeps your files organized. We recommend this option for most customers since it’s simple and requires no shipping.

🔄 Option 2 – Trade In for a Gen 4

You may trade in your Gen 3 and receive an upgrade discount toward a Gen 4 model.

The Gen 4 includes:

  • Updated hardware

  • Extended clock functionality

  • Improved battery performance
