12 Gauge Quick-Release Mount

Our 12 Gauge quick-release mount comes with all new ShotKam purchases. The aluminum mount features rubber pads for a firm grip without marking the barrel, ensuring no metal-to-metal contact. Available for Gen 4 Mini, Gen 4, and Gen 3.

Also fits:

  • 10 Gauge: Fits the 12 Ga quick-release; no additional mount needed.
  • 16 Gauge: Generally fits the 12 Ga quick-release. If needed, use the extra pad from the "spare parts bag."

To switch the ShotKam between shotguns, loosen the silver screw to open the mount. The camera remains secure, and the top opens like a claw to clamp onto your barrel. Only one 12 Ga quick-release is needed per ShotKam. Tighten with approx. 5 lbs of pressure; do not over-tighten.

Mounting on a ported barrel

The ShotKam cannot be mounted directly onto porting holes on a ported barrel. This is to prevent damage from heat and debris to the rubber lining inside the ShotKam mounts. If your barrel is ported, we recommend mounting the ShotKam at least 2-3 inches away from any porting holes.

Additionally, here are the details for when the barrel appears in the video with a Gen 4 ShotKam, based on the video format:

  • 4K Format: Barrel visible when mounted 5+ inches back from the muzzle

  • 2.7K Format: Barrel visible when mounted 7+ inches back from the muzzle (default setting)

  • 1080p Format: Barrel visible when mounted 9+ inches back from the muzzle

The default video format in the ShotKam App is 2.7K. If you wish to mount the ShotKam 9 inches from the muzzle, you can select 1080p (Full HD) in the mobile app.

Using with magazine extension tube

Learn how to mount ShotKam on a magazine tube using the 12 Ga quick-release bracket. Find out compatibility details and assembly tips.

Can the ShotKam be mounted onto a magazine tube?

Yes, our 12 Ga quick-release bracket (that automatically comes with your purchase) fits most magazine extension tubes.

The maximum diameter of the 12-gauge bracket is 27 mm (a little over 1 inch) and this 12-gauge is our largest bracket size. If your magazine tube is under 27mm in diameter, then you can mount the ShotKam onto it.

The 12-gauge quick-release bracket is lined with protective rubber pads, so you may need to remove one (or both) bracket pads to fit it onto your extension tube. You will find an extra rubber pad in the "spare parts bag" included with each purchase, so it is easy to put back on. Simply use fishing line to hook the rubber nob, then gently pull it through the metal bracket hole.

If you have specific questions, please send the outer diameter of your extension tube to Support@ShotKam.com so we can confirm which mount works best for you.

Rifle Mounting Guide

Learn about the options for mounting your ShotKam onto a rifle. Attach the ShotKam directly onto your rifle barrel or onto a Picatinny or Weaver rail with this guide.

Rifle with ShotKam.jpg

Mounting on Rifle

The ShotKam can be mounted either on any Picatinny or Weaver rail, or directly onto the barrel using our recommended attachments below. The ShotKam camera is ideal for targets up to 100 yards and records footage from underneath the barrel, not through the rifle scope.

See example videos at the bottom of this article, or join our Facebook Group called ShotKam Community to see videos shared by our customers.

Mounting on Picatinny or Weaver Rail

  1. Purchase the Rail Mount (purchasing links here).
  2. Attach the ShotKam by gently tightening the Rail Mount screws (approx. 5 lbs pressure).
  3. Set "Shooting Device" in the ShotKam App (bow, rifle, or shotgun).

Additional Rifle Information:

  • For optimal performance with the following rifles—AR15, AR10, Ruger Precision Rifles, or tactical rifles featuring M-Lok or KeyMod forends with Picatinny rails—we recommend using our Rail Mount accessory. Mounting onto the rail reduces vibration during recoil, ensuring crisp video footage. When mounting, opt for side positioning, keeping the USB port facing upwards to maintain a level video angle. Note that the bracket grooves may not align with the camera tube slots when side-mounting; this is normal.

  • Avoid mounting beneath the barrel to prevent potential bipod interference and refrain from top-mounting if a scope/sight is present. For shorter barrel ARs with backward-directing muzzle brakes, position the camera closer to the trigger to minimize exposure to gas and debris. For detailed instructions on how to avoid seeing the barrel in your videos, read "seeing barrel in your videos" article.

Reminder: ShotKam is not intended for scope recording.

Bow

Using compound bow mount: setup instructions

Learn how to attach and calibrate ShotKam on your bow. Follow step-by-step instructions for setup, mounting, and reticle alignment for optimal video recording.

Bow Setup

Purchase the bow mount accessory here, then calibrate the reticle. Mounting the ShotKam above the bow mount will bring the camera's alignment closer to the arrow's alignment. This will give a better video of the arrow flight. The ridges on the rubber mounting pad will not be in the grooves of the camera tube and the USB port should be up.

  1. Remove your bow’s original stabilizer.
  2. Screw in our custom bow mount. This will act as your stabilizer and is the same width as a 12-gauge barrel.
  3. Attach the ShotKam above the stabilizer using the 12-gauge mounting bracket.
  4. Ensure the camera's USB port is facing up in order for the video to appear correctly. In order to get the USB port up, the grooves in the camera tube will not be aligned with the ridges of the bracket and that is okay. Note: If the USB port is down (closest to the stabilizer), then your videos will be upside-down.

bow_up.jpg         bow_usb_up2.jpg

Bow Settings

  1. Turn on your ShotKam's WiFi, connect, and open the ShotKam app (steps here).
  2. Open the Settings icon, then select:
o Target Type: Either “Ground Game” for a long video, or “Paper Target” for a short video.
    o Shooting Device: Bow
    o Reticle Style: Red Dot
  3. Save those settings.

Reticle Alignment Steps

Decide which sight-pin you will align the reticle to. For hunting with sight pins at 20, 30, and 40-yards, we recommend choosing the 30-yards as a compromise. For target shooting, choose the sight pin for your target distance.

For the next steps, you will need two people. One to draw the bow, then one to align the reticle.

  1. Turn on your ShotKam's WiFi, connect, and open the ShotKam app (steps here)
  2. Open the reticle icon (crosshair icon).
  3. Person #1: Fully draw the bow and anchor it into your face, then aim the bow at the desired target with the chosen sight pin.
  4. Person #2: Use your mobile device to align the reticle onto the target. This will take multiple times of drawing the bow as the drawing arm tires quickly. Once the reticle is aligned, press "Save" and exit the app.

Ready to Shoot

  1. Turn the ShotKam ON with a quick click of the control button (one green LED).
  2. If using the Ground Game setting, follow these steps here and shoot within 5 minutes of turning the camera on. The Bow setting is extremely sensitive, so the release of the arrow will trigger the video to be saved.
  3. If using the Paper Targets setting, shoot within 60 seconds of turning the camera on, or bump the camera to reset the 60 second timer. Ensure the LED is solid green which shooting. The release of the arrow will trigger the video to save (blue LED after you shoot).

Important Tips

  • Never draw the bow without an arrow nocked (arrow in place).
  • To help stabilize the sight-picture when the bow is fully drawn, you can rest the back of the arm holding the bow against a wall or post.
  • Depending on your bow's limbs, you will see video distortion in the ShotKam videos. This is caused when the bow limbs vibrate for up to one full second which causes many frames of distortion (20-30 frames of distortion).
  • You must be at a suitable range to do this and follow their range safety procedures.
